Charity Boxing tournament was hosted in Veifa by the Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association, to raise funds for the Veifa’a Catholic Church.
The Fundraising event also coincided with the official launching of the newly-purchased boxing ring that was presented to the association by the PNG Sports Foundation in December last year.
It was a trip that is now, hard to forget. Rough and bumpy, but the athletes from the NCD Boxing Development squad were all geared up and looking forward to the trip to Veifa in the Kairuku-Hiri District.
The six chiefs in Veifa presented to the guest at the tournament a branch of betel-nut with a live chicken attached to it which was the biggest presentation by a chief in the Kairuku Hiri District.
The tournament was officially opened by PNGSF Acting Executive Director Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, and a cash of K5000 was donated to the church by PNGSF and an extra K1000 from his family with Mr Paru Aihi, who also donated K100,000 to the church.
The tournament featured boxers from Kairuku and the NCD Boxing Development squad who took to the newly presented boxing ring presented to them by the PNG Sports Foundation last year.
Charity Boxing event Coordinator and PNG Boxing National Coach, Joe Aufa, said it was good for this tournament to also promote boxing in the Kairuku Hiri District.
Dick Larry the NCD Boxing President also thanked the people in Veifa for the charity tournament to be hosted there.
The Veifa Chief Lui Akaina was grateful to see the charity tournament a success and the support they have received from it.
It was a tournament which will help develop young boxers in kairuku achieve there dreams.
