Belolo MP, Sam Besil, has warned feuding clans inthe Belolo area not to destroy government property following an expected land court decision on Friday.
Several clans have been in court from several years disputingthe ownership ofthe Belolo town.
And, feuding clans inthe Belolo electorate will finally get an answer over long standing dispute over land on whichthe Belolo Township sits. Bet asthe decision is to be handed down threats have been issued against government property.
Mr Besil, says those breakingthe law will facethe full force ofthe law.
“Court will makethe decision and thatthe court’s decision is independent to any body’s influence”, says Besil.
Belolo landownership case has been a long running one with various parties all laying claim to this small mining town.
It’s not clear what may happen on Friday when a court decision is handed down butthere’s a permanent police presence in Belolo specifically to prevent any trouble.
Belolo wasthe center of attention about two years ago when locals clashed with Sepik settlers. Another clash will draw more unwanted attention to this rural town.
