Immediately after his appearance in court this morning Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, called a media conference where he said he was satisfied with the outcome of this morning’s proceedings, and will consider reopening the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate.
He is also pleased that the Deputy Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika, emphasised the powers of the commissioner and the need for police officers to abide by the command and control of the constabulary.
Commissioner Baki confirmed it would take possibly three or four days to reopen the fraud office.
He said there were matters of accountability that need to be completed before reopening the office.
Baki warned that he would use the recommendations from the inquiry into the fraud office, which is currently under investigation, to restore accountability within the office.
Commissioner Baki said he has no intention of stopping investigations being carried out by the directorate.
Meanwhile, Baki will meet at a later date with all the members of the fraud squad, including Matthew Damaru and Timothy Gitua.
