Fifty athletes are at camp at the National Sporting Institute in Goroka, Eastern Highlands in preparation for the Pacific Games.
The camp is to get the athletes to know their coaches through training programs. It comes as Papua New Guinea prepares to meet stiff competition from other Pacific athletes in the Games.
The athletes were selected from the 6th BSP PNG Games in Lae. President of PNG Athletes, Tony Green says the opportunity gives athletes the chance to know their coaches and for coaches to improve the athletes for the Games.
The athletes include sprinters, middle and long distance runners, jumpers and throwers. Present for two days was the High Performance Team, who were part of the training. The newly-refurbished gym at the sporting institute also gave the athletes a challenge to test their fitness.
Inspiring the athletes at the camp was sprint queen Toea Wisil and Subul Babo. The two-weekcamp will end this Friday and the camp’s second phase is scheduled for February next year.
