Angau Hospital Gets Land

By Scot Waide – EM TV News, Lae

The Angau Hospital in Lae has received a certificate of occupancy for a portion of land opposite the current hospital site.

The portion of land is situated on the old Lae Airport site and has been the source of much controversy with various parties claiming ownership.

After the relocation of the airport to Nadzab, the land was subdivided and rezoned.

However, there have been various people claiming to have titles to land portions on the old airport land.

“There have been many instances where people have produced fake titles,” said Acting Lands Secretary, Luther Sipison.

“The lands department never issued those titles.”

The certificate of occupancy, which was handed to a representative of the hospital, gives Angau the legal right to expand as planned.

The new hospital will have nursing quarters funded by the Australian government as well as a new cancer facility built on the land portion.
