Ousted Hela Province Governor, Anderson Agiru, has been reinstated to his former position.
Members of the Hela Provincial Assembly removed him from office during Christmas of last year.
Yesterday morning the Waigani National Court ruled in favour of Agiru returning to office.
The court, on an interim basis, has reinstated Agiru, with the decision welcomed by hundreds of supporters who packed the premises of the court house.
After the seven days’ notice lapsed, the assembly voted in Komo-Magarima MP, Francis Potape, as the new Governor.
The decision to elect Potape was taken to court by Agiru.
Posman Kua Aisa lawyers, who represented Agiru, said if the opposing party wants to take the matter back to court when the legal year opens in February, they can do so but at this time Anderson Agiru is the Governor of Hela.
