Exercise Long Reach 2016 for APEC Security

The building of relationships and sharing of information between security agencies in Papua New Guinea, and Australia were two key outcomes identified at the close of a Joint Task Force conference today.

The conference began in Port Moresby, on Monday and aimed at developing an operational plan that will be used by all security agencies to ensure a safe and secure APEC in 2018.

It was attended by members of the three PNG Disciplinary Forces, Fire and Emergency Department and the Australian Federal Police and Defense Force.

Known as Exercise Long Reach 2016, it is part of promoting Port Moresby as a secure destination for the APEC Summit.

Police commissioner Gari Baki said he is confident, PNG will deliver a safe and secure APEC because of the joint support from over 26 agencies.

This marks the beginning of many joint conferences that both nations will be engaging in, to draft up a security plan for APEC.
