Police in Mt Hagen confiscated 34 cartons of counterfeit British American Tobacco cigarettes worth more than K300,000 yesterday afternoon.
Police seized the cartons of cigarettes at a private residence in Mt Hagen, after receiving a tip off.
The smokes were packed and concealed in steel wool boxes.
The leftover thirty four cartoons were seized and brought into Mt Hagen Police Station, whilst 24 cartoons had already been sold.
Police will start their investigation today with British American Tobacco on the counterfeit cigarettes.
The owner of the cigarettes will also be charged for smuggling such products into the City.
In another incident yesterday, a man was arrested for selling 14 rounds of live ammunition in Mt Hagen City.
He is now in police custody while investigations are continuing. He will remain in custody until he appears in Court.
Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Martin Lakari, said the two incidents signals the start of Mt Hagen Police Christmas Operations leading to the 2017 National Elections.
