WHP Village Court Officials Miss Out On Payroll

Village Court officials in Western Highlands Province are raising concerns over non-payment of their monthly allowances.

They told EMTV News that while some get to take home their income, others still miss out.

They said this has affected their work for two years, since the National Executive Council had introduced the increase in their pay.

This village court officials came from all over Western Highlands Province.

They said that out of an eleven-member village court, only seven of them are receiving allowances.

A Village Court is made up of at least 11 officials, and they include the village court magistrate, a clerk, a peace mediator and others.

There are 1600 village courts in PNG. Within, there are 5000 court officials.

Most of them are not highly educated, but they were given the jobs because of their leadership personality.

They maintain law and order at the village level.

The village court officials said they want an equal treatment from the government.

They said the government must fix this before the 2017 National elections.
