MV Rainforest ready to serve Morobe’s Huon Coast

The Huon Gulf District expected to drastically cut transport and freight costs borne by the people of the Morobe South Coast with the resumption of services by the district owned vessel , MV Rainforest.

Today the vessel began its inaugural trip to the Morobe Patrol post after a three year delay brought on by a court case disputing the vessel’s ownership.

MV Rainforest will be managed and operated by the Morobe Coastal Shipping Services (MCSS), the company that has replaced what used to be Lutheran Shipping.

“What we hope to do is cut costs shouldered by the people of Huon,” Said Huon MP, Ross Seymour.

The Huon District is also expected to subsidize the cost of freight for coffee and cocoa farmers.

” This is the missing link.”

MV Rainforest is one of several vessels bought by 5 Morobe and operated by MCSS. The arrangement is meant to fill the void left by the demise of the Church-owned Lutheran Shipping.
