Bidding for Events in PNG

Following the success of the 2015 Pacific Games, the legacies will remain forever, says Minister for Sports, Pacific Games 2015 and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko.

He says with world class facilities now on our shores, it is Papua New Guinea’s opportunity to host and bid for internationally-recognised sporting events, such as the Women’s U21 football World Cup.

With facilities now available, PNG is in the limelight, while bidding to host FINA Oceania Championships, where the country will host the 2018 Oceania swimming championships, and the U15 basketball Championships.

With the country now ready to host a world-recognised event in the women’s U21 Football World Cup, PNG will start bidding to host the Commonwealth Games, in the near the future.

The minister says it depends on PNGs Sporting federations to work with Sports Foundations and affiliating with international sporting bodies to bring international sporting events to the country, now that we have the facilities required to host such events.
