Lae MP Calls On National Government to Fix Milford Haven Road

Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza, has called on the National Government to fix the Milford Haven road.

She says big companies that pay tax are situated along the main road that goes to the Lae main wharf.

The Milford haven road helps contribute billions of Kina into government coffers.

Containers going up to oil, gas and minerals projects highlands as well as imports and export containers for retailers and manufacturers pass on the road from the main wharf.

But, in the last ten years, the road has been neglected and allowed to deteriorate.

“The Milford haven road is a National Government road, the road cutting through bumayong past unitech is also a National Government road,” says Kouza.

The Lae MP called for immediate funding for the Milford Haven road, as well as the Independence Drive past Unitech.

She says both roads need to be fixed without anymore delays in contract agreements.

“The three contractors have been short listed already,” says Kouza.

Credit can be given to the government for the transformation of the Lae roads over the last five years.

Over K500 million has been made available for the city’s roads to be transformed into what it is today.

But, there are still patches that need attention on the Milford Haven road which still stands out, because of its role in business operations in Lae.
