Export lager wins gold in international award

Papua New Guinea’s South Pacific Brewery has won an international award for its South Pacific Export Lager brand.SP Export Lager has won the Gold Quality Award nine times since 2006, at the Monde International Quality Institute.

In 2016, SP Export Lager was among a total of 429 other entrants from around the globe.

The awards are held annually in Brussels where an independent panel of expert judges does a sensory assessment of the beer in what is known as ‘blind tasting’.

The panel looks at the ingredients used, the brewing process and techniques. The judging panel then awards Gold medals only to those that meet the highest standards.

Apart from the Gold medal Award; SP Export Lager also received the International High Quality Trophy – an award which recognises ongoing success at winning the Gold Selection Quality Awards for three consecutive years.

Port Moresby Brewery Manager, Kuri Yuwai, said SP Brewery recently upgraded and renewed it production facilities at both the Port Moresby and Lae breweries, and added that SP Brewery is passionate about quality in all parts of the brewing and production process.

“South Pacific Export Lager is brewed using the finest ingredients, skill and care to ensure we consistently achieve brewing excellence which is reflected in the successive Gold medal Awards from Monde Selection. Credit must go to our loyal, hardworking and dedicated staff who give their best to maintain these high levels of excellence, and which we will continue to maintain,” Mr Yuwai said.
