Asitavi High School In Critical Need of Improved Infrastructure

Saint Mary’s Asitavi Secondary School in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville was established in 1956, and over the last 60 years has not undergone any major facelift.

However, in recent times, little has been done to improve the infrastructure, mainly classrooms and dormitories.

Principal, Elaine Baris, told EMTV News in Wakunai, that the school is facing critical problems and is in dire need for new infrastructure.

She appealed for political intervention.

“Our science laboratory, home economics building needs major maintenance,”

There is an urgent need for the power reticulation because cables run under ground, which is considered as a safety hazard.

A scope done was calculated at K700,000.

“It’s not safe. We have to run the overhead cable.”

Baris appealed to stakeholders including Central Bougainville MP, Jimmy Miringtoro, for their assistance.

“We have been writing but there is no response,” she said.
