With Papua New Guinea’s National Elections fast approaching, the media has been encouraged to ensure that it carries out its role of informing, educating, and creating healthy debate without fear or favour.
Deputy Head of Mission for the United States Embassy in Papua New Guinea, Joel Maybury, made these comments when speaking on the role of media in the current US Presidential Elections.
Drawing from his experience as a journalist, Maybury said there were important lessons that the media in Papua New Guinea could learn from the US in election reporting.
In less than a year, PNGa will also be conducting its elections.
And just like in the USA, the role of media will be crucial, with the media looked at to play the role of informing, educating, and creating debate on issues of national importance.
