Nasty Road Accident Claims a Life

A nasty road accident in Port Moresby has claimed the life of a security guard. The deceased identified as Paro Kusi was hit by a Toyota Truck and died instantly.

Kuri was crossing the Poreporena Freeway at Gordons opposite the South Pacific Brewery when he met his fate.

His body was trapped under the truck until authorities repatriated the body to Port Moresby General Hospital.

Eye witnesses, Simon Nindel and John Warua said Kusi was on his way to work when he was hit. He was employed as a security guard with Millennium Security.

The truck that hit him, dragged him for about four meters and hit another vehicle, which was running on the inner lane.

“The deceased was hit when he crossed the road by this white vehicle, he is a security guard,” Nidel said.

Senior Constable, Phillip Paru and his team were the first officers at the scene.

They quickly blocked off part of the Freeway leading towards Central Waigani and cleared the crowd and controlled the traffic, which was already building up.

The fire truck and Saint John Ambulance arrived minutes after.

However, because the body was stuck against the middle aisle, it took several minutes to lift the truck to remove the body.

The two vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Boroko Police Station.

This is the second road accident reported to police today. Another accident occurred at Hohola, also along Poreporena Freeway.

Police will be working to identify the driver who fled the scene.
