Piniau Out After Heat Six

Theo Piniau in his maiden appearance to the Olympic Games had a taste of what competition is like at the highest level of sporting competition in Rio early this morning.

In heat six of the athletics men’s 200m, Piniau was in lane three, up against top runners from right across the globe.

The 23-year-old finished last in heat six of the event, with a time of 22.14 seconds.

His last place finish means he does not qualify for the semi-finals of the event, which are scheduled for early tomorrow morning.

Also in the men’s 200m heats was Usain Bolt, who strolled through his heat to progress to the semi-finals.

100m silver medalist Justin Gatlin advanced to the semi’s and 100m bronze medalist Andre De Grasse also progressed.

Both are expected to meet again with Bolt in the final of the event.
