Port Moresby Nature Park to Host Inaugural Cultural Day

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

Port Moresby Nature Park will be hosting its inaugural cultural day on September 3.

The cultural day will be staged in partnership with the National Cultural Commission, the National Museum and Art Gallery and the National Agriculture and Research Institute (NARI).

The partners have come together to stage this event to showcase different cultures of Papua New Guinea, and how each of these unique cultures connect with animal and plants, and most importantly, the significant roles each can play in conserving the animal and plant species.

Events scheduled for the day include traditional celebrations, weaving, fire-making, live carving demonstrations, traditional games and activities, and regional food tasting among others.

The inaugural cultural show is a good initiative especially for those who lack cultural knowledge or know little about their culture to learn about the different cultures to be showcased during the celebration.

It is educational, awareness-oriented and is aimed at highlighting the important connection between different cultures and animals and plants, and the role one’s culture can play in saving these species.

The cultural day is believed to be the first of its kind and residents in Port Moresby are encouraged to attend the cultural day.
