Vehicle Plunges into Drain in Port Moresby

A vehicle plunged into a drain outside Games Village in Port Moresby at midday today, sparking concerns from residents over reckless driving.

The driver and about five others who dodged any significant injuries were said to have been intoxicated.

According to eye witnesses, the car had been speeding down the residential street, almost running over children who were playing at the roadside.

Angry mothers who stood at the site of the accident, holding their children and fretting over their children’s endangerment, called on authorities to look into the incident.

They said the men were seen removing cartons of beer from the car after it dove nose-first into the drain damaging its bonnet.

The driver who appeared to be in his late 20’s, recounted the accident, saying he was unaware of the drain he had driven into in the process of trying to get back onto the main road.

An attempt to tow the car out of the drain was proven unsuccessful as angry residents refused to help the driver unless he was held accountable.
