Sister School Agreement

Sogeri National High School has entered into a sister-school arrangement with the Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School in Japan.

Japanese Ambassador, Morio Matsumoto, said Sogeri National High School is a remarkable school for Japan because it conducted the first Japanese language education in the country.

The sister-school arrangement is expected to promote people-to-people exchanges between Japan and PNG.

The signing of the sister school agreement was held at the Sogeri National High School outside the nation’s capital this morning.

It was signed by the Board Chairman of Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School, Takehiko Katoh and Principal of Sogeri National High School, Kive Kererembo.

The relationship began when Japan was hit by the Great East Japan earthquake in 2011 when Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School was just one of the victims.

Ambassador Morio Matsumoto, said the Government of Japan gives priority to assistance for education, which in turn provides the foundation for further development of PNG.

Board Chairman of Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School, Takehiko Katoh, encouraged the students to take on the challenge and apply to become exchange students.

Next year, Mr Katoh and his delegation will return to PNG to help share the international project.

“Our school supports Japanese learning program here for students interested in Japanese Language, culture, history and economic skills,” Mr Katoh said.

The Japanese Embassy in Port Moresby hopes the sister school arrangement will help Japanese and PNG students to have a stronger bond and learn a lot from each other.
