Students and staff of two remote primary schools in the Menyamya District of Morobe Province wore big smiles when receiving their new uniforms.
This is because for the first time, the students will be wearing their uniforms, thanks to the Morobe Provincial Government.
Menyamya Primary School and Umba Primary School in Kome Local Level Government, yesterday received their uniforms from the Morobe Provincial Government.
The uniforms cost K150,000 and is part of a K3 million school uniforms subsidy program, which was endorsed by the Provincial Executive Council in their last budget.
Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, officially handed the bags of uniforms to both schools.
The first school was Umba Primary with 240 students and their uniforms cost K40,000.
The next recipient was Menyamya Primary School, with 987 students and 21 teachers. Their uniforms cost K110,000.
The issuing of the uniforms is part of Morobe Provincial Government’s School Uniform Project Roll Out, through the Provincial Support Improvement Program (PSIP) funds.
This project targets remote schools before extending to schools in Lae city.
