Education Sector Needs Database System

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Education Department needs a proper database system to monitor teachers, students and schools throughout the country.

Education Minister, Nick Kuman, told parliament this valuable element is not in place thus the Department is facing many problems.

Kuman said, the Department needs accurate statistics for all schools throughout the country. He says, the Parliamentary Committee on Education has made good recommendations to the Department.

Furthermore he says, more amendments will be done to the Education Act after taking into consideration the report presented by the Special Parliamentary Committee on Education.

He was responding to questions raised by Wabag MP, Robert Ganim, over a recent report tabled in parliament which MP Ganim believes the Government was very slow in responding to. The Minister responsible says, an outcome of the report is the placing of additional school inspectors in a district.

Meanwhile, the Education Department has created 24 positions for officers to monitor TFF Funds in each province.
