Three Suspects Allegedly Involved in Doctor’s Death Arrested

Lae police have caught three suspects involved in the killing of senior doctor Alphonse Rongap over the weekend.

One was caught on the night of the attack, and another surrendered to police yesterday.

This morning, police apprehended the third suspect allegedly involved in the killing of Lae Paediatrician, Dr. Alphonse Rongap, on Saturday night.

During the initial stages of the investigation police had identified five suspects.

It has been four days since Rongap was killed and police have already apprehended the suspects.

One suspect, from East New Britain, was caught during a raid on Saturday night after the incident was reported to police.

Yesterday, one was brought in for questioning. Today, another suspect was picked up at the Tari Block at Kamkumung Settlement.

The three suspects are now in custody awaiting charges.

Dr. Rongap was serving as a paediatrician at the Angau General Hospital.

He had driven along the back road area on Saturday, and after dropping off a family member his vehicle was surrounded by a large group.

On Sunday, morning family and friends of Dr Alphonse Rongap gathered at his Eriku’s residence after receiving news of his death.

The Angau Hospital staff had scaled down their operations after receiving news of his death. However, the hospital has resumed normal operations as of yesterday.

Dr. Rongap was rushed to the Angau Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
