Vocational Training Program to Equip Young Adults to Improve Job Forecasts

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

A training program commissioned by Taipei-based International Cooperation and Development Fund has started from September 4 and will run through to December 22.

The vocational training program is aimed at equipping participating representatives with vocational skills, to later train and help those from their respective nations to improve their jobs prospects.

A total of 30 participants from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies have attended the program and are currently  in training. The participating Pacific Island countries include Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands and the Solomon Islands.

According to the Deputy Secretary-General of the Taipei-Based International Cooperation and Development Fund, Lee Pai-po, the 30 participants are “receiving training in the areas of automobile maintenance, carpentry and electrical engineering”.

The vocational training program is run by the Ministry of Labour’s Workforce Development Agency.

The training is an opportunity provided by the government-funded agency to help the young adults from the six participating Pacific island countries, who will later help their locals on improving their job skills.

This will help them to also seek jobs in other countries such as Australia and other neighbouring island countries.
