In the wake of multiple terror attacks on Paris, France, the Opposition has cautioned the national government to tighten internal security.
“Terrorism-related attacks ranging from the Sydney siege to Paris attacks should not be taken for granted but as a warning for the country to build our own security capacity,” Opposition leader, Don Polye said.
Polye queried whether the government had already mobilised resources and efforts to tighten national security; citing underfunding of core agencies of national security remains a problem in the country.
“Terrorism surveillances are among the top priority of security issues with our closest neighbors Australia and New Zealand, and what is PNG’s position on this issue,” Polye asked.
With PNG hosting the APEC summit in 2018, and the U20 Women’s Soccer World Cup next year, Polye said the less effort on talking about national security is a concern on the minds of many.
