Ryan Pini and the rest of the Papua New Guinean swim team have wrapped up their campaigns at the World Aquatic Championships in Russia, unfortunately, with limited success.
Pini failed to make it past the heats in the men’s 50m backstroke event, swimming a time of 26.11 seconds.
This saw him quicker than his Pacific Games gold medal winning swim, but 0.82 seconds outside of the time required to see him going through to the semi finals.
The other event featuring members of team PNG was the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay.
The team made up of Ryan Pini, Tegan McCarthy, Barbara Vali-Skelton and Sam Seghers got out of the blocks quickly. However, Seghers was a little too quick, taking off early on the final change and therefore seeing the team disqualified.
