Paws for Thought: Looking after our Furry Friends

Our attention may solely be focused on the Pacific Games at present, as we cheer on Team PNG over the coming fortnight. However, it’s also important to remember our furry friends, who might be in need of a much-needed check up.

Port Moresby’s RSPCA, located on the corner of Waigani Drive and Kunai Street, is the only veterinarian clinic operating in Papua New Guinea.

Two internationally qualified vets are on hand to give your pooch or pussy a thorough going over, with vets available not only for consultations but also for more in depth surgery, if required.

The RSPCA also have boarding facilities available on site, for those times when you might be wanting to take some time away for yourself, but you’re needing to find a friendly face to take care of your family pet.

A recent visitor to the RSPCA centre was Bella, a 2-year-old Maltese cross. Accompanied by owner Lillian, Bella came in for a blood test and was given a clean bill of health.

Lillian, who is Guard Dog Security’s Transport Coordinator says that she would be lost without the company of Bella.

“In the office, we are best friends. She follows me around everywhere,” says Lillian.
