Minister Micah responds to PPL Workers

By Michelle Amba – EMTV, Port Moresby

Public Enterprise and State Investments Minister Ben Micah is calling on PNG Power Workers to wait for the government’s decision on the restructure of PPL.

Minister Micah will be presenting a submission this week to cabinet on the restructure of PNG Power.

He said the intention of the restructure is to outsource generation area to allow for efficient and reliable electricity supply to customers.

The Minister said the submission will be substantial and will address the outstanding claims for workers. It will also request for funding to pay off those that will be retrenched under the restructure.

He said PPL is in a mess and government is trying to address this through this intervention.

Micah said Cabinet will discuss proposed changes to PPL, which will answer the many questions raised by the workers.

“The changes will place PNG Power in a position to modernize its administration and operations and become team players in the energy sector”, said Minister Micah.
