Forum To Talk On Sorcery Related Violence in PNG

Sorcery related incidents and accusations have recently mounted at an alarming rate in Papua New Guinea, generating public outcry for the victims.

Recent reports have highlighted women have been victims of sorcery related killings and accusations in the country.

While concerned organisations, through documentaries and programs, have alerted many about the problem it still remains difficult to monitor and control.

Bishop Donald Lippert of Mendi, who says holding those accountable as the key to stopping these activities in the country, is hosting a forum against such violence.

Expected attendees includes high ranking Catholic Church members, police and business community representatives, Miranda Forsyth, sociologist Philip Gibbs and the US ambassador to PNG and the Solomon Islands, Walter North.

Focus will be on the introduction of preventions to these acts of sorcery related violence, as it is very challenging and difficult to stop individuals from believing in sorcery.
