Former Journalist to Contest Ijivitari By-Election

by Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Opposition leader, Don Polye, has endorsed former journalist Simon Eroro as his party’s candidate to contest for the Ijivitari Open seat in Northern Province.

The seat was left vacant after the courts dismissed MP David Arore over election related corruption. Hundreds gathered at the Popondetta Independence Oval, where Eroro signed his nomination on Monday.

Polye said candidates and political leaders will come and go but people must think of the future of their children. He added that while past leaders have failed the people of Ijivitari, young and dynamic leaders are what the people need.

Meanwhile, the Opposition leader along with Kikori MP, Mark Mapakai, said the opposition would continue to fight corruption throughout the country.

Eroro will be the ninth candidate to contest the by-election.
