Djokovich Beats Murray, Wins Fifth Australian Open Title

by Hera Hoi – EM TV Online

Serbian Novac Djokovich and Scottish Andy Murray set the Australian Open finals match at an intense and thrilling pace.

While Murray proved to be out to set a new record for himself and cause a big upset, a familiar Djokovich was cool, calm and collected, and ready to claim the title for the fifth time.

Djokovich defeated Murray 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 at the Melbourne Park on Sunday, snatching the Australian Open title and marking a historical event for the tournament.

“Djokovich became the first man in the Open Era to win five Australian Open titles on Sunday,” reports The Association of Tennis Professionals.

It was difficult to determine who would come out triumphant at the start of the match. The first two sets were, as the commentator put it, ‘royal entertainment’ and ‘superb Tennis’.

Murray was unable to keep up the inspiring pace by the third set and Djokovich came out triumphant by the end of the fourth set.

Djokovich remains at the top of The Association Tennis Professionals rankings while Murray’s consistent performance throughout the tournament will move him up on two spots to take the fourth spot on the rankings on Monday.
