by Mickey Kavera – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Business houses in Northern Province are on high alert following an armed robbery at a supermarket a week ago.

The Papindo Supermarket was robbed of a substantial amount of money on Sunday, October 25 by assailants who travelled in from Lae.

According to locals the group hired a vehicle from a local hire car operator, pretending to be betelnut buyers.

They then used the vehicle to carry out the robbery.

This incident has rattled the business community who are calling on police to step up their operations.

There was no police presence at the time of the robbery.

It is understood policemen escorted a state politician from the province to attend a church celebration.

Several suspects have been brought in for questioning.

Investigations into the robbery has commenced, however, the provincial police commander Jacob Singura is yet to release further details.
