Parliament Resumes For The July Session

by Michelle Amba – EM TV News, Port Moresby

MP Mark Maipakai, took a brief opportunity in Parliament today to quiz the Prime Minister over his changing views on the second LNG Project.

The Kikori MP asked Peter O’Neill during question time why he changed an initial stance he made in support of having the processing plant in Gulf Province.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill responded saying that statement was made in support of the previous operator’s stance, which was then Inter Oil.

He said that since then, the title of the project has been transferred to TOTAL.

He said in order to attract investors the government must try to have an understanding of the decisions that are made by the investor.

He said that Gulf Province will not miss out because the construction of the Condensate Plant will create thousands of employment opportunities.

The PM asked the people and leaders of Gulf to work together with the Government and the Operator in delivering this project.
