More Training and Development Programs for Special Olympics PNG

by Elijah Lavett – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

After their outstanding performance at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, winning a total of four medals, plans have been put into place for future training and more development programs for these athletes.

The athletes will continue training in preparation for other tournaments.

Some parents were also part of the team who went to the World Games. The idea was to get the special olympians involved with some athletes programs such as the family network program and the Healthy athletes program, to teach them how to look after their child.

President of Special Olympics PNG, Takale Tuna, said it is hard training an athlete with special needs; they plan to implement sub programs in the different provinces to help the athletes keep fit.

Family plays an important role in the lives of these athletes; Mr. Tuna commended their tremendous support and encouraged them to continue.
