MRA’s Exploration Initiatives

By Delly Waigeno – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) has put in place initiatives to encourage exploration during challenging times.

MRA’s Executive Manager Geological Survey Division, Nathan Mosusu, said the initiatives were introduced with the aim of boosting mineral exploration in the country.

Part of MRA’s plan is a diversification program, doing geological mapping to find other metals, apart from Gold and Copper, which may be of interest to investors.

The MRA is a regulatory institution, established by a parliamentary enactment. With the current challenging times in the sector, MRA is now focused on doubling its mineral search by 2030.

Mosusu said there are many challenges, such as cost factors.

He added that despite the cost challenges, it’s an opportunity to forge working partnerships with the government and key stakeholders.
