PNG Barras Announce Squad

A new look Digicel Barramundi’s squad has been announced as the team departed for Australia today.

With four debutants in the squad, the team is preparing for a big season in the South Australian Cricket Association Premier League.

Head coach Dipak Patel said that Despite missing out on the ICC World T20 Qualifier in Europe a couple of months ago, the Digicel Barramundis have been working hard back in Port Moresby preparing for the SACA Premier League and the Intercontinental Cup/World Cricket League Championships.

The squad is filled with a great mix of experience players and up and coming youth players. Jack Vare will lead the Digicel Barramundis for the second time, while eight squad members will be returning for another stint at the SACA Premier League.

Alei Nao, Riley Hekure, Hiri Hiri and Nosaina Pokana have been called up to the senior squads after impressing at the Pacific Games in Port Moresby while Chad Soper and Sese Bau have been rewarded after solid performances at the ICC World T20 Qualifier

Digicel PNG’s Chief Executive Office, Maurice McCarthy said “Digicel is honoured to continue as the naming rights sponsor and supporter of the PNG Barramundis with a K300 000 package

The Digicel PNG Barramundis will fly into Darwin where they will be playing 50 Over Matches against the Grit, Force, Mavericks and the Edge, before flying to Alice Springs to take on the NT Strike in a 2-Day match.

Then the final leg of the SACA League will take place in Adelaide where the Digicel PNG Barramundis will take on the EDGE and NT Strike in 50 Over Matches and then the Force in a 2-Day Match.
