The national softball titles here in Papua New Guinea kicked off on Wednesday at the Bisini Sports Grounds, with 13 teams taking part in this year’s tournament.
Tournament Director, Fred Tarasomo, said this tournament is also in its 40th year, which coincides with independence.
Nine men’s teams and four women’s teams have joined the competition, with new comers Manus Island adding a little extra spice to the competition.
The tournament is set to finish this weekend, with the Madang Kings looking to defend their men’s title.
Competition will be tight though, as the Kings play off against a strong visiting side from Australia in the Canberra Giants.
