Exxon Backs Power Supply Into The City

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Electricity supply into Port Moresby has been enhanced with Exxon Mobil delivering up to 25 megawatts from the LNG Plant.

Exxon Mobil’s Managing Director, Andrew Barry, says this is to deliver better and improved electricity to the city and in time for the Games.

The milestone was celebrated at the LNG Plant at Papa-Lealea by dignitaries from all sectors this morning.

The supply of 25MW of electricity is a MOU agreement between the Government and PNG Power in January this year.

Not only are city residents set to benefit, but the arrangement will also save PNG Power on fuel costs.

PNG Power Chief Executive, John Tangit, says this will save PPL costs on fuel and will improve power supply to other centres in the country.

With only two days left beforr the opening of the 15th Pacific Games, Exxon Mobil and PNG Power says power supply will not be a problem.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop says the city has faced power problems over the years and this arrangement will be a major boost to provide effective power supply for all.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill commissioned the power supply witnessed by all stakeholders at the PNG LNG Plant site earlier today.
