Karate Championships ends on high note

The 24th National Karate Championships ended on a high note with a promising batch of young participants.

The two day event is part oPNG Karate Federation’s efforts to raisethe standard ofthe code domestically. It has withnessed a fine showdown of Karate techniques fromthe Kata to Kumite.

The championship is a pre-selection tournament in preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games.

Junior participants also took part in a demonstration atthe Sir John GuiseIndoor Complex.

Sailas Piskaut took out first place inthe individual Kata after defeating Julius Piku.

It was a strong contest inthe Kata competition inthe senior men’s division, but regular staging of Karate events have provern helpful in building skill and confidence.

All members ofthe Karate development squad were part ofthe National Championships held atthe Sir John Guise Stadium overthe weekend.

PNG Karate-Do Federation (PNGKF) has been runningthe 2015 Pacific Games targeted training camps since 2012 where all members have been invited to attend.

PNGKF will also be inviting selected parents, friend and supporters to attend a one day seminar on Karate competition volunteer roles.
