Mining companies FlyIn Fly Out Roster was raised in parliament during question time on Tuesday.
Reactions were sought from mining companies onthe FlyIn Fly Out roster currently used by mostoif not all mining companies inthe country.
While most companies are yet to respond tothe announcement made bythe Prime Minister, one mining company provided its response on Wednesday.
Ok Tedi Mining Limited says it already has an established town in Tabubil with infrastructure, andthe changes will not affecttheir current roster.
It also said building of towns and infrastructure by mining companies would very much be determined bythe outcome of feasibility studies as most mines operate inthe most remote locations.
It added thatthe cost of doing business for most mining companies will also be high if this review is in effect.
This response comes afterthe Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said to review current mining agreements following a question raised by Member for Laigaip Porgera, Nickson Mangape.
Mangape called for government to review current mining legislations and agreements so mining companies can build a township intheir location of operation before any work could begin.
Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare also supported this call through a supplementary question.
However, he saysthere is still space for changes andthe Mining Minister will be tasked to take charge of this issue.
