The National Capital District says it will beef up security atthe Gordons market with assistance from police.
Reserve police will be deployed to guardthe market to ensurethe safety of women and girls.
This initiative is in partnership with Police andthe UN Womenunderthe safe city program.
Gordons market in Port Moresby is known for its petty crime which has become a grave concern. Womenand girls always fall victim raising questions of security atthe market.
The National Capital District is now responding to have this resolved.
Governor Powes Parkop’said underthe safe city, safe market initiative reserve police will be stationed to provide security.
He sounded a warning to young men causing all this petty crime thatthere time is up.
Division Commander for NCD and Central Jim Andrews saidthe police will support NCD in maintaining law and order atthe market.
He said police will deregister buses that do not completetheir routes. And taxis will not be allowed to operate unlessthey are registered as a company.
UN Womenwill facilitatethe process to have infrastructural changes atthe market. It will be funded by NCD at a cost of K2million.
