Papua New Guinearsquo;s Regional Assistance Mission tothe Solomon Islands, or RAMSI, has come to an end.
The last ofthPNG Defence Force contingent Kumul Force 16, returned home on Monday ending a successful ten years engagement.
PNGDF officials, family and friend gthered atthe Jackson’sInternational airport to givethe troops a special Easter welcome.
The troops arrived in flying colours, it was mission accomplished. All thirty three are fromthe First Royal Pacific Island Regiment in Taurama Barracks.
The commander Beigadier General Francis Agwi acknowledged his troops and said that day will go into history.
The commander saidthe Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands or RAMSI for short is a strategic, operation and tactical lesson for all.
Agwi saidthe overall character and attitude inthe past ten years has been highly commended bythe regional partners andthe world.
ThPNG Defence Force made special thanks tothe Australian Defence Force for training seven hundrePNGDF soldiers prior to sendingthem for the RAMSI operations overthe years.
The professional preparations have instilled lifelong skills inthe troops.
Meantime, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will pay a visit tothe troops later inthe week.
