The National Government is embarking on repealingthe current laws that are regulatingthe export of coffee totheWorld Market.
This announcement was made by Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Tommy Tomscoll.
Minster Tomscoll saidthe current law is too givingthe buying power to only a few buyers who have a monopoly overthe market.
This new direction will create avenue and greater excess for Papua New Guineas to exporttheir harvest.
Minister Tomscoll madethe announcement yesterday when officiating atthe launch of Tari Pori’s 5- Year Agriculture Plan.
Currently, Papua new Guineas have limited chances of owning export licenses because ofthe requirements such as a credit letter fromthe bank andthe sit capital.
However,the government will soon put an end to this by reviewing and revisitingthe current requirements.
The minister plans to have an export license per districtothis he says is to provide more avenues for locals to take control of howthey grow and exporttheir coffee.
“I am reserving one export license per district underthe new arrangement,” said Tomscoll.
“I am doing so, primarily because I want to shiftthe competition fromthe town centre intothe district,” he added.
His announcement was re-emphasized by colleague minister, James Marape who saidthe government is now focused on revivingthe agriculture sector.
Beth minister agreed that this is one of ther major announcements to be made concerningthe agriculture sector.
