Polye: Higher Education Act to be Ammended

Treasury and Acting Higher Education Minister Don Polye’said at a media conference today,the higher education Act will be amended.

The amendment will givethe office of higher education regulatory functions, following his plans to lift academic standards of tertiary institutions to international levels.

Mr Polye’saidthe current education standards for some universities are not at par with international accords.

 

They must change to accommodate current development trends.

 

The minister has planned to allocate 40 to 50 million kina to support accreditation programs. This will push universities to invest and produce a highly skilled and trained human resource.

 

Mr Polye also called for more public and private partnerships to assist in sponsoring students’rsquo; studies abroad.

 

Meanwhile,the minister called on university councils to stop all in-house politics and concentrate on students’rsquo; welfare.
