Parkop on Gordons Killing

NCD Governor Powes Parkop has called on communities from Maramuni and Surinki from Enga province to refrain from any confrontation followingthe death of a Maramuni man in Port Moresby.

The death occurred following a confrontation between vendors and casual workers atthe Gordons Market last week.

It was assumed that City Rangers were part ofthe conflict; however, Governor Parkop’says City Rangers do not inspect city markets.

The incident is said to have created tension back inthe Enga Province between both ethnicities.

Four suspects have already been arrested andthe matter is under investigation.

Despite this, tension is high between both communities inthe city and it is said to have created some hostility back in Enga Province.

Acting City Manager Honk Kiap saysthe conflict has forcedthem to withdraw cleaning services at Gordons Market for an indefinite period of time.

He saidthey will be assistingthe police intheir investigation ofthe matter.

Meanwhile, Governor Parkop’says a small contribution will be made tothe family ofthe deceased for funeral costs.
