PNGDF: SoldiersReturn From New Zealand Training Exercise

Forty-five Papua New GuineaDefence Force personnel yesterday returned from one month of training in New Zealand.

The Southern Katipo Exercise is a biannual event to foster bilateral ties and improverthe skills of military personnel.

 

This isthe first batch of Papua New GuineaDefence Force soldiers to participate inthe training program.

 

They returned confident withthe skills gained in security and stability.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Ang ofthe New Zealand Defence Force, highlightedthe importance ofthe exercise.

 

He said,thPNG’soldiers are as good as any soldiers inthe world, andthey must be giventhe right training.

 

Deputy Joint Forces Operations Commander ofthPNGDF, Lieutenant Colonel Tony Aseavu, toldthe soldiers to uphold discipline intheir duties.

 

He was concerned that lack of discipline withinthe force has tarnished much oftheir efforts in improving it.

 

He said,the training is timely many and many ofthe soldiers will be called out for peace keeping missions.

 

The bulk ofthe soldiers who attendedthe training were fromthe second battalion from Moem Barracks in Wewak.

 

ther soldiers were from Igam andthe Port Moresby-based Murray Barracks.
