Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare will be taking out a court injunction to stopthe Speaker ofthe house from removing parts ofthe National Parliament.
Sir Michael’says this isthe only option left to stopthe Speaker from destroyingthe country’s icon.
Sir Michael wasthere at Parliament this afternoon to see what was being done, and was obviously not pleased with what he saw.
The fther ofthe nation anPNG’s first prime minister was upset with what he discovered at parliament this afternoon.
Accompanying Sir Michael were heads of boththe National Cultural Commission, and Anthropology.
He was later joined by former Speaker, Timothy Benga, who also lashed out atthe Speaker for removing symbolic structures ofthe parliament.
Sir Michael was frustrated at howthe Speaker has gone ahead with removing parts ofthe National Parliament which holds allthe cultures ofthe country.
He saidthe resolution ofthe parliamentary committee was never brought to parliament.
Sir Michael who was instrumental inthe decidingthe structural design ofthe building, says his next step is to take legal action.
Sir Michael pointed out thatthe speaker is only a custodian, and does not havethe right to mover or remover any part of this building.
His frustration was echoed by Mr Benga, who called onthe Speaker to stop what he is doing.
The cleaning up ofthe parliament is half way through, and is now up tothe removing ofthe grand poles.
