Abel Flies in to Kokopo for IPDP Launch

The National Government has pledged more support in assisting West New Beitain Province address some of its development issues.

This was stated by Minister for National Planning and Monitoring Charles Abel duringthe launching ofthe provincesIntegrated Provincial Development Plan in Kimbe early this week.

Minister Abel arrived to a grand welcome at Hoskins airport and was greeted by West New Beitain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel and Provincial Administrator Stephen Raphael.

Minister Abel wasthere to launchthe revised ProvincesIntegrated Provincial Development Plan 2012 – 2015, held in Kimbe Town.

His visit coincided withthe launching ofthe NGI leg ofthe E-ID workshop conducted bythe National Statistics Office.

Duringthe launching Governor Muthuvel told Minister Abel that for years West New Beitain did not getthe support needed for developmentodespite havingthe biggest agro-industry in Oil Palm.

He added infrastructure was a priority. Particularly roads and bridges, such as Beluma, which was destroyed early this year due to heavy rains.

Minister Abel agreed thatthe current focus on gas resource has swayed attention fromthe agro-industry. He addedthe lack of support was not a problem of funding but that of implementation – somethingthe Government is determined to ensure.

The West New Beitain IPDP champions rural development and has three main objectives which are to Empower and Sustainthe Livelihoods ofthe People of West New Beitain, Strentheningthe Public Service Machinery, and Maintenance and Rehabilitation ofInfrastructures.

It has been aligned withthe MTDS 2011 – 2015 and Vision 2050 for consistency in overall government implementation.
