Disabled Persons: Holistic Human Development Training

The rights of people living with Disabilities has improverd significantly inthe past three years according tothe Founder ofthe Rehabilitation Centre and President ofthPNG Disabled Persons, Brown Kapi.

Yesterday that process was futher strenthened withthe first ever Personal viability training for people with disabilities being held yesterday. Facilitator, Jessica Geveken, toldthe 20 participants andtheir caretakers thatthey havethe right to be empowered.

 

The training was held atthe Hohola rehabilitation centre. For most ofthe participants in this room this isthe first time for them to take part in such a training.

 

They were given an insight into howthe economy works and howthey can add value totheir lives. It was an eye opener.

 

The training is being sponsored by EDTC PV Business Scheme. Underthe scheme participants received personal viability training for holistic human development focusing on physical, mental, spiritual, emotional and financial prosperity.

 

The training will continue for two weeks.

 

Mr. Kapi, saysthere is progress wherethe disabled minority is concerned. Bet a more inclusive approach is needed for this group of people to fully participate in nation building.

 

PNG is a signatory tothe UN Convention which recognises people living with disabilities.
