Business PNG – We Feature the Mobile Money Conference

 

TheInstitute of Banking and Business Management (IBeM) in partnership withthe Centre for Excellence in Financia lInclusion (CEFI) hostedthe inaugural Mobile Money Conference that was held in Port Moresby earlier this month. The conference,themed “mobile money”, focussed and discussed about how mobile phone technology as well as mobile networks can be used as a tool to drive financial inclusion inthe country.

Reports show that about 80% of Papua New Guineas are currently unbanked, of which most are those who live inthe rural areas wherethere is very little or no access to any form of banking.&nbspIn this edition, BusinessPNG exploresthe keythemes that were discussed atthe conference, innovation and mobile technology as well as regulations that might help pavethe way forward for mobile banking in PNG

 

Treasurer Don Polye also spoke to BusinessPNG aboutthe plans his office will need to implementoin order to supportthe widespread growth of mobile money technology in Papua New Guinea
